Zuvor gab es 13 Starts der Saturn-I bzw. Saturn IB. Der 14. Start der Saturn-IB konnte nicht stattfinden, weil einen Monat vor dem Starttermin das Apollo-Modul bei einer Übung mit den Astronauten an Bord ausbrannte. Das Unglück führte dazu, dass das ganze Fahrzeug noch einmal auf seine Sicherheit überprüft wurde, und daraufhin stark verbessert wurde.

Und nach dieser einleitenden Vorgeschichte mag es am Gründungsjahr der Firma Revell im Jahre 1956 liegen, dass man sich nicht so intensiv auf die Raumfahrt konzentrieren konnte. Schließlich waren konkurrierende Firmen schon 15 Jahre und länger am Markt etabliert, so war es sicher notwendig rasch eine breite Basis an Modellen zu entwickeln. So blieben, abgesehen von der in der deutschen Geschichte begründete A-4, andere Modelle aus dem Weltraumprogramm bei Revell aus. Mit der Saturn-V, Erstausgabe im Jahr 1969 im Maßstab 1:96 kam die erste Rakete auf den Markt, pünktlich zum ersten Mondflug mit Apollo-11 am 20. Juli des Jahres. Rund alle 13 Jahre taucht das Modell in neuen, aber unveränderten Produktionen wieder auf. Vermutlich geschuldet der frühen Ausgabe oder auch geheim gehaltenen Bauplänen, weist das Modell Abweichungen zum Original auf. So hat sich auch für die Saturn-V ein Marktplatz gebildet, um das Revellmodell zu supern, insbesondere, wenn das Modell in die einzelnen Stufen aufgebrochen werden soll, so wie es zum Beispiel auch im Museum in Cape Canaveral steht. Hierauf spezialisiert zum Beispiel die Firma New Ware Was wurde noch spannendes aus diesem Saturn-V Bausatz bei Revell entwickelt? Nun, es gibt noch ein 03700 Bausatz, der nur das Apollo-Raumschiff beinhaltet, also das Command Service Modul und das Mondlandemodul. So kann das Raumschiff gekoppelt aber auch getrennt mit gelandetem Mondlandemodul aufgebaut werden.

Physical fighting is not possible. Many animals give up in time when it is clear who is the stronger. With humanoids, the winner is the one who doesn’t stay down permanently. This is bad for the two largest nations, the USSR and the USA, because everyone still wants to exist after such a fight. The Second World War, the starting point of globalisation, when the spoils were divided up by the two big nations, it was not clear which system was better or more dominant. Like in Monopoly, the fields were occupied and cultivated. The Second World War ended with Japan’s surrender. Immediately, the eight or so more local wars began, motivated by decolonisation and bloc formation to define the local power structure as well. The last of these wars, the Korean War, made it clear that the two great powers did not have to face each other, but that a smaller country could be found where the conflict could be fought out by proxy. Currently, such a kind of war is being worked on in Ukraine.

After this historical excursion we come back to the year… Now this is difficult to define. After the foundation for space travel had been developed in the German Reich, albeit in order to carry warheads as far as possible into the enemy’s playing field, the technology and technicians were in high demand. The two great victorious powers tried to grab what they could. The loot was shipped home and both great nations now tried to do something with it. The USA was able to get hold of some of these missiles, plans, but above all the technicians, who themselves tried to get into American captivity. The USSR gained access to the workshops through the division of Germany, the Soviet occupation zone. Few technicians ended up in the Soviet Union’s sphere of influence, mostly those who preferred to remain in the eastern part of Germany. Both major nations quickly realised the potential of this technology and went to great lengths to occupy as much as they could in the wartime confusion of the German Reich. One must probably mention Sergei Pawlowitsch Koroljownennen, der für die sowjetische zielorientierte Requirierung im Deutschen Reich federführend war, zumal er selbst sich seit den 1930ern mit der Raketenentwicklung beschäftigte, wusste er, worauf es ankam. Da man auch in den USA bestrebt war, die Rakete als Waffe zu benutzen, war die US-Air Force damit beauftragt. Sie entwickelten die Atlas-Rakete von 1946 bis 1957, es gab eine Unterbrechung, weil Gelder für den Koreakrieg benötigt wurden. Dennoch hob die erste dieses Raketentyps vier Monate früher, am 21. August 1957 in der Nahe des kasachischen Baikonur ab. Die sowjetische Rakete, damals R-7 benannt, ist noch heute als Sojus-Rakete bekannt, eine über die Jahre weiterentwickelte Familie von Raketen und noch im Einsatz. Korojov’s consistent work until 1966 had clearly paid off here in the race.

In the USA, this Soviet superiority was not to be accepted. Attentive observers also realised that the US Air Force was overburdened by its military tasks to also advance space flights, especially since Wernher von Braun’s group worked more efficiently compared to the resources made available. Thus, the civilian US National Aeronautics and Space Administration was founded in 1958, and von Braun’s team was quickly integrated. Given the time constraints, I quickly noticed that according to the Revell site, the products were identical in quality and quantity. From experience, this didn’t seem abstruse to me either, since this Antonov was, after all, originally from the time of the USSR, and was to find a new use in Ukraine after the breakup of the USSR. It was specially developed to transport the
Soviet orbiter from the Buran-Raumfahrtprogramm in the troposphere. The transport system is comparable to NASA’s modified Boeing 747-100 der NASA, mit dem der Orbiter des Space-Shuttle-Systems zwischen den verschiedenen Standorten transportiert wurde. Es wird hierzu noch einen gesonderten Weltraumrennen mit Revell geben.

Ich legte also diese beiden Produktseiten von Revell nebeneinander, und ich sah im Grunde nichts Essenzielles, worin der Preisunterschied von fast Faktor 2 seine Begründung finden sollte.

Vermutlich vor 1,8 Millionen Jahren fing der Mensch an, das Feuer zu benutzen.Er war noch nicht in der Lage es selbst zu entzünden, vielmehr wurde das natürliche Feuer aus Vulkanen oder Blitzschlag verwendet und gehütet. So wird man dann auch rasch gelernt haben, Ton und Lehm zu brennen, was sich aus den Funden der Nahrungszubereitung und der körperlichen Entwicklung des Menschen ableiten lässt. Spätestens da entstanden langlebigere Figuren und sicher auch komplexere Spielzeuge. So wurden Reifen, Trommeln und Pferdefiguren gefunden. Insbesondere Funde aus der Hochkultur Ägyptens zeigten, wie detailliert diese Spielzeuge aussahen, später auch versehen mit beweglichen Teilen. So sind uns aus der Kultur auch viele Spiele überliefert, die noch heute gespielt werden, darunter Brettspiele und Würfel, sicher auch viele Spiele, die die Geschichte vergessen hat.

Fast wie gestern, demnach vor 32000 Jahren, lernte der Mensch, wie er selbst Feuer erschaffen konnte. Vermutlich durch Try-and-Error stellte er fest, dass Pyrit und sogenannter Feuerstein ein Funke erzeugt, wenn er richtig angeschlagen wird. Beide Minerale sind hart, wobei der Feuerstein etwas härter ist, eine Klasse weicher als Halbedelsteine, aber dazu noch piezoelektrisch, das bedeutet, dass er bei Verformung eine Spannung, also einen Funken erzeugen kann. So dauert es dann noch bis 8000 vor Christus, dass erste Metalle geschmolzen wurden und sicher auch dann Metalle Einzug in die Spielzeuge hielten.

Da es nicht jedem vergönnt war, mit Metallen umzugehen, ist zu vermuten, dass es nicht mehr an der Fingerfertigkeit der Sippe lag, qualitative Spielzeuge herzustellen, sondern Spielzeuge auch unterschiedliche Werte aufgrund des Materials bekamen. Damit wird es angefangen haben, dass verschiedene soziale Gesellschaftsschichten oder Länder auch unterschiedliches Spielzeug zur Verfügung hatten.

Vor rund 50 Jahren waren sie schon berühmt und populär, die Experimentierkästen von Kosmos und sind in veränderter Version noch heute erhältlich. Herausgegeben wird er seit von der Franckh’sche Verlagsbuchhandlung W. Keller & Co., die für Veröffentlichungen diverser Fachbücher bekannt ist. Die damaligen Experimentierkästen in ihrer letzten Erweiterungsstufe bildeten etwa das Niveau und die Anforderungen an einen die 10. bis 12. Klasse abschließenden Jugendlichen ab, also man darf sagen, dass der Experimentierkasten bis in eine gehobene Zielgruppe reicht. So gibt es viele Themen aus dem naturwissenschaftlichen Bereich, der erste befasste sich mit Elektrotechnik im Jahre 1922, gefolgt von einem Radiomann, mit dem sogar elektromagnetische Wellen zur Funkübertragung erzeugt werden konnten bzw. Radiotechnik möglich war. Es gab Detektorempfänger, kleine Sender, natürlich auch Empfänger sowohl mit Elektronenröhren als auch mit Halbleitern. Schließlich Baukästen, die sich mit der digitalen Logik und Computertechnik beschäftigen, sowie Chemiebaukästen, Optik und Astronomie. In der Regel so angeordnet, dass es einen Einstiegskasten mit Erweiterungen gab. Viele der Jugendlichen fanden so, begleitet durch die Schule, den Einstieg in die Naturwissenschaft.

Man muss feststellen, dass viele dieser Experimentierkästen heute so nicht mehr existieren, in der Regel aus Gründen der Produkthaftung. Welches Unternehmen mag schon verklagt werden, wenn der Endkunde schwefelige Säure trinkt oder die Drähte von den Batterien abklemmt und an der Steckdose anschließt oder den Sender so manipuliert, dass er geschützte Funkfrequenzen stört. Wie sagte der Nobelpreisträger Prof. Richard Phillips Feynman Jahrzehnte nach dem Trinity Test at White Sands in New Mexico State, “We were all not children by then!” He, like many others, protected only by sunglasses, faced the first nuclear weapons test at the age of 27. So it remains an open question whether intelligence protects against folly. And nevertheless, the limited modern experimental kits are certainly also a loss.

Nachdem ich mit einer Einführung in die Klemmbausteinebegonnen habe, gibt es hier einige tiefere Einblicke in eine Unterkategorie, die Züge. Übrigens, es gibt auch einen Beitrag über ein Zugmodell, den BR 650 Dieseltriebwagen, too. But let’s begin with some facts. Zu finden sind in den ersten Zeilen der Tabelle die schon bekannten und erwähnten Größen und Beziehungen. Die Originale sind außer farblicher Hinterlegung in der Zeilen dann noch in den Dimensionen von Millimetern aufgeführt, bei den Modellen die Auflösung in Einheitssteinen (Noppen und Bausteinhöhe, also 8 mm und 9,6 mm).

Die Spalte Ratio(H/W) beschäftigt sich mit dem Verhältnis von Weite zur Höhe. Der Mittelwert liegt bei den Originalen etwa bei 1:1,34, die Werte der verschiedenen Fahrzeuge liegen eng beieinander. Es gibt einen Hersteller, zugegeben, es liegt derzeit nur ein vergleichbares europäisches Modell vor, da weicht das Modell nur 4,6 % ab. Aus eigener Anschauung kann ich feststellen, dass das Modell das Original sehr gut wiedergibt. In einem YouTube Video erkannte ich die V200.1, was bei der DB der BR221 entspricht. Das Video zeigt ganz eindeutig, dass das Modell viel zu hoch geraten ist, die Tabelle bestätigt, über 20 % zu hoch, gleiches gilt für den VT11.6 (BR601/BR602). Der “Rheingold” Wagon ist mit 17 % ebenfalls zu hoch geraten. Die V100 gibt es in zwei verschiedenen Weiten, 6 Noppen und 8 Noppen, man kann gut erkennen, dass hier die 7 Noppen die richtige Wahl gewesen wäre, bei gleicher Modellhöhe.

Das erklärt dann den Fall, warum einige der Bauer die Modelle in der Weite mühsam anpassen. Mühsam, weil manche Grundplatten extra für das Produkt in der angebotenen Weite produziert werden. So sind auch Züge mit unterschiedlichen Weiten schlecht kombinierbar, da die Ansicht doch leidet. Eine Harmonisierung wäre hier von Vorteil, das haben die hart konkurrierenden Anbieter von Modelleisenbahnen schon sehr früh geschafft.

On the positive side, so far no child has been convicted for using their own creativity to create something that has already been patented.

Of course, plagiarism is already an issue with the big competitors, especially since massive sums of money are involved. On the one hand, for example, a European manufacturer pays for the rights on Star Wars to the current copyright holder Disney, on the other hand, its own development costs and sales shortfall. There was a good example of a Chinese company dedicated to the Star Wars product series, where you can hardly distinguish what comes from which manufacturer, if not different logos and details in the outer packaging would allow conclusions. I don’t think we need something like so etwas in Europa brauchen, oder?

Es gibt Meinungen, die besagen, dass die Inspiration der Noppensteine in den Anker-Steinbaukästen liegt, die seit 1995 wieder produziert werden. Der berühmte Pädagoge Friedrich Fröbel legte Kindern geometrische Formen vor, mit denen sie ihre Kreativität entwickeln sollten. Keine Geringeren als die weltberühmten Brüder Gustav und Otto Lilienthal erfanden und vermarkteten die Bauklötze zusammen mit dem Baukasten im Jahr 1879. Die Bauklötze halten sich nur durch ihre Reibung und Schwerkraft. Wahrscheinlich waren die Brüder, wie viele andere Erfinder auch, ihrer Zeit voraus. Mangels guter Vermarktung verkauften sie die Idee an Friedrich Adolf Richter, der sie dann ab 1882 patentierte und in Thüringen mit erfolgreicher Vermarktung produzierte. Die Produktion der Anker-Steinbaukästen überdauerte die beiden Weltkriege bis 1963. Die heute noch expandierende Produktion gilt als preisgekröntes Lernspielzeug.
